As part of my Dom-ino house project I designed a bespoke roof canopy for my client, a music producer.  Together we selected a track, he had both engineered and produced, called Lonely Hours by Mallory Knox.  Through using software Touch Diagnostics and Houdini I generated digital sound waves from the track.

Taking this information into 3D Rhino I was then able to isolate the profile contours in both directions, which made up the grid-like wave structure.  This information could then be programmed into an aluminium CNC rod bending machine, which would shape the rods as an exact replica of the sound waves.

Once welded together they would go on to form the mesh structure for a roof canopy.  Awning fabric is then manipulated through the mesh to create partial shade during the summer months.  The fabric is a polyacrylic that is mold resistant, UV light resistant and water repellent, which can be taken down and machine washed at intervals.
